Heshoo Beshoo (South Africa)
HESHOO BESHOO (meaning Go Forward) was established in 1987 as a cultural youth group in Langa Township outside Cape Town, mainly as a means of providing meaningful activity for young people in the location.

During the 1990's, the group established itself as one of the leading traditional African music & dance groups in the Cape. Consisting of male drummers and marimba players and four female vocalists / dancers, the group has become as known for its strong musical and vocal skills as for its colourful stage appearance and vibrant dance performances.

Instrumentation:
marimba, percussion
Genre: traditional / indigenous
Heshoo Beshoo toured in Canada and the US both in 1991 and 1993 as part of the International Childrens' Festival, and have also toured extensively in South Africa. For example, the group performed with Mzwakhe Mbuli and a host of other SA artists at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on the occasion of the return of the external ANC delegation for the Groote Schuur talks in 1990. Heshoo Beshoo has also performed as a support act with artists such as Manu Dibango and Hugh Masekela in Cape Town.

The group’s repertoire consists of both traditional, such as the "Click Song", and original material: "Mabongo" which features brief solo dancing spots by the women; "Save The World", a moving childrens' song composed during their Canadian Tour of Childrens' Festivals in 1991; and "No More Tears" a vocal number in the gospel tradition.

Heshoo Beshoo supported “Obenda!”, the project which is a collaboration between top Norwegian musician Bjørn Eidsvåg, and Namibian youth group The Sunshine Kids. This interaction paved the way for the group to travel to Norway in June 1997, to Namibia during May 1998, and again onwards to Norway.

Subsequently the group have continued with both local and touring work, most recently participating as part of the South African entourage headed to Mexico in October 2004.
