Nongogo, Nomhle (South Africa)

She began her music career in early 2000 as a backing vocalist and by 2002 she was one of the most sought after backing vocalists in the gospel music scene. She then joined the Award-winning gospel music group Joyous Celebration under the leadership of Lindelani Mkhize and Mthunzi Namba. Nomhle has also worked with Gospel stars who paved the way for gospel in South Africa, the likes of Kholeka, Lundi Tyamara, Zodwa Twecu and Andile Bebula to name a few. "I've always wanted to be a singer and I started singing from the age of four. When I grew older I sang for the church choir and then music groups but gospel music has always been my first love.” says Nongogo.

As an artist, she has a unique voice and offers versatility coupled with a drive to grow in the industry which has enabled her to experiment with different music genres. From gospel, she tapped into hip hop where she worked closely with hip hop heavyweights HHP, Tuks, Teargas,JRand Amu on some of their tracks. She also toured with them around the country and beyond the borders.

Having worked and served the industry for nearly ten years has taught Nomhle patience as well as grown her spiritually and musically. This made her explore into what she refers to as traditional soul where she worked with award winning female artists, Unathi Nkayi,Thandiswa as well as Maxhoba and Asanda Bam. "It has been a humbling journey filled with challenges.

Having worked with amazingly talented artists and performing for different crowds has taught me tolerance, respect and helped me find myself. Music defines me, it’s who I am, I had big dreams, I still do and I always knew this day would come. Music is what has kept me going"

Nomhle's album is conveying a message of hope and is speaking for those without their own voice with the vision to bring about change in our communities. She tackles social issues such as HIV/AIDS on her first single "Ingane" featuring Zulu Boy.
