Hamba Kahle, Sipho Gumede
Bassist, composer and bandleader Sipho Gumede passed away in Durban on Monday 26 July.

Sipho had been performing regularly, until he fell ill ten days ago. He was in fact scheduled to play at the Rainbow this week. He died at Durban's Parklands hospital early on Monday evening.


MEMORIAL SERVICE & FUNERAL INFO

Sipho Gumede's families official confirmation of his death / memorial service and funeral.

The Gumede family would like to officially confirm that on Monday the 26th of July Sipho Gumede passed away from lung cancer. He leaves behind four children - Mantombi, Sifiso, Nozipho and Nontuthuzelo and his brother Qedi.

Sipho Gumede's Memorial Service will be held at the Student Union buildings at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal - Durban campus from 5pm on Friday 30th July 2004. After the memorial service those wishing to attend his wake can proceed to Mr. Gumede's residence in Ndwedwe.

The funeral service will take place at the Student Union Buildings at the University of KwaZulu-Natal at 10am on Saturday 31st of July 2004 and then the cortege will proceed to his final resting place at Stellawood Cemetery.

There will be buses leaving for the memorial service from Durban's City Hall on Friday at 4:30pm and on Saturday at 9:30am leaving for the funeral service. The very same transport will also bring the artists back to the city after the services.
